Cool Technology: New Battlefield 3: Thunder Run Tank Trailer (E3)

Computer graphics are advancing so fast that it amazes me sometimes. From the days of Super Mario Brothers, the video gaming industry has graduated into an era where computer A.I. is smarter, interfaces are more interactive, and the graphics on some of these games are almost photo-realistic. The video below is an example of really awesome graphics (and interactive game play) for the game Battlefield 3. If you haven't seen the trailer for the game yet, you just have to see it to believe it.

What really amazes me is the level of detail that the makers of Battlefield 3 have managed to put into the trailer above. Short of getting shot at in Iraq or Afghanistan, I am not sure how someone could have a much more realistic taste of what it would be like to be in an actual war than this. The graphics are just amazing, the sound scape for the game is very detailed, and the pacing is about right to what I imagine an actual battle would feel like.

If this is what video games feel like today, I can only imagine what they will feel like in 10 or 20 years. Maybe by then you'll be able to date your favorite movie star or become so immersed in a game that it feels like something out of the movie Total Recall. In any case, it's amazing.
