I posted this as a good natured jab at some of the strange dichotomies that exist for members of the Mormon church (my faith as well) when it comes to illegal immigration. Here is the text. "Ah, the drug war in Mexico. What better way for Mormons to reach out to their brothers and sisters across the world, showing to all how much they love and care for them . . .
. . . unless they're illegal immigrants . . .
. . . after all, was it not our master, even Jesus Christ who said (paraphrasing a bit here)
"And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me . . .
. . . unless they're an illegal immigrant, and then it's okay to hate them as much as you want".
Yes, yes, we all know that they're here ILLEGALLY and how HORRIBLE AND UNIMAGINABLY WRONG that is, how they're FILTHY, GOD-HATING, 3RD CLASS CITIZENS, ETC, ETC!!!
But what would Jesus have us do, my Mormon brothers and sisters? Would he have us blindly hate the maids and janitors of the world, wishing them low paying jobs, fear of law enforcement, possible deportation away from their families, and possible death as they try to reenter the United States to be reunited with their families?
Can you imagine Thomas Monson or Gordon Hinkley reading the comment boards on ksl or the Deseret News with glee every time an illegal immigrant story is posted and posting comments from the anonymity of his home like, "Yeah, DEPORT ALL ILLEGALS NOW! They are freeloading on the system and leeching off my tax money!!!" Should you as a Mormon bishop or Elder's quorum president post things like this, only to go to church on Sunday and pretend to like the same illegals in your ward that you posted bad comments about on Saturday?
Remember: every time you hit an illegal immigrant, you make baby Jesus cry!"
